David is a 15 year-old from Carrolton living with cerebral palsy. His mother, Evelyn, is a single mother who recently had a surgical procedure performed making difficult for her to lift David from his wheelchair to his bed, put him in a vehicle, place him in the bathtub and all the responsibilities she has as his only form of mobility.
Variety was honored to present David and his mother with a portable hydrolic lift that will ease her small frame in providing the needed care for David.
Evelyn was kind enough to share the following letter with Variety recently, and asked that we share the letter with our many supporters.

Dear Lance:
As Thanksgiving approaches, it is impossible for me to not have Variety on my mind. I am so grateful that you and your group made it possible for David to be safely moved. Believe me, every day that I walk into David’s room and see that lift, your faces come to mind. It never fails to put a smile on my face. While we live in an age where it seems only the most tragic things make the news, I know that there are heroes among us. There are people like you and the Variety members. What you all do truly makes a positive difference and is a huge contribution to those that need a helping hand.
I just have to tell you how much it meant to me to find out that we had received approval for the lift. I was going through a very difficult time. I was doing my best to try to honor God and felt He was trying to tell me that He would take care of us. When I got your call, it was like God was saying “I have sent my angels to take care of you and David”. I felt a sense of peace that I had not felt in such a long time. Your gift was precious to me in more ways than the obvious. The gift of the Dallas Cowboy picture from some tender person (wishing to remain anonymous) was icing on the cake. I wept with joy all the way home.
My words seem inadequate but please know that your gift truly blessed us. This holiday season I am praying that you and your families will also be blessed. Thank you so very much!
